Huck and Jim's Paradise

Huck and Jim escaped from society because of all the injustices and hypocrisy to Jackson's Island, where food is abundant and it is relatively safe and peaceful. Because both were in peril, they had to break from society. As a slave, Jim has no say in his own fate no more than Huck has had as a child. But the significant of their escapades varied, Huck is a child and Jim is a slave. Jim will face harsher consequences if found, unlike Huck who will probably be return the widow. Jackson's Island served as a refuge for the two escapees who break with society to control their own destiny.

  1. I think you should have added details on why Jim and Huck ran away from Society and how they did it would have been even better.

  2. @Sloppy_Kebabs. You are very much right, this island is sort of their shield against the outside world. With that island and that raft, they have the ability to escape and start anew, the dangers are very much there, and because Jim is not really considered a person If he is caught, he's dead. I really do hope they both make it out to where they plan to go. But because of how every book goes, I have a bad feeling tragedy will occur. :(

  3. I don't really believe that Huck ran away from society or that he ran away because of hypocrisy. Jim definitely ran away because of injustices, but Huck just ran away because he was tired of his abusive father. You were close, but they both didn't have the same reasons.

  4. I don't think Huck escaped because of hypocrisy rather than just not having the freedom to do what he wants before he was adopted by the widow. Jim on the other hand had the injustices and hypocrisy to run away from because he had nothing to look forward to as a slave.

  5. I agree that Jim ran away because of hypocrisy, but I think Huck ran away because he did not want to be told what to do by the widow or beat up by Pap.

  6. I believe that huck ran away due to that he couldn't change what was going to most likely happen if he stayed with pap any longer and Jim left almost for the same reason because he didn't know what was going to happen if he had stayed with Mrs. Watson any longer . so in hind sight Jim and huck left because of the same reason which was they didn't know what their fate was going to be in the end if they had stayed in their particular situations.

  8. You make a really great statement. It's interesting that they continuously believe in superstition yet rarely mention fate, which seems to bring these two characters together. Without Jackson's Island I don't think they could have lived without getting caught as long as they did.

  11. I disagree with this statement, I think Huck ran away from home because he was tired of his aunt. Huck wanted his own freedom and I think he was actually trying to help out Jim run away.
